Following weeks of speculation, Madonna has confirmed that she will perform at the 2015 Brit Awards.

The Queen of Pop announced the exciting news on Twitter, telling her 549k followers that she couldn't wait to take the stage at London's O2 on 25 February.

She joins an impressive line up which includes Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and last year's Critics' Choice winner, Sam Smith.

"She's an icon, an innovator and, above all, an entertainer. Having her as part of the show will guarantee an unforgettable night of music," Brits chairman Max Lousada added.

It will be the Like a Virgin singer's first time on the Brits stage in 20 years. Her last appearance at the Brits was in 1995, when she performed Bedtime Stories while dressed in white and accompanied by a wind machine.

With over 300 million records sold, Madonna has two Brit Awards under her belt. She first took home the best international female title in 2001 before regaining her crown in 2006.

Her highly-anticipated performance is just the exposure the star needs ahead of the release of her forthcoming 13th studio album, Rebel Heart, on 9 March. In 2014, snippets from the 56-year-old entertainer's new LP were leaked online forcing her to rush-release six songs from the album on iTunes.

The 34th Brit Awards will also be broadcast live on ITV at 8pm GMT.

Meanwhile, the music legend is also warming up her vocals for her performance at this year's Grammy Awards.
