40mins Bold move from Mancini - and that's not a phrase to often associated with the Italian. He hauls off Johnson and brings on Barry. I said it was bold, I didn't say it was inspiring. An odd choice from the City manager. Johnson has been on the periphery but I would have thought the attacking threat he posed over Barry would have held some sway.

30mins City are causing Villarreal absolutely no bother at all. The away side are defending admirably without really breaking sweat. Mancini will be concerned by this, his team are struggling to shift up a gear.

25mins City are dominating possession without creating anything clear-cut and Villarreal are defending with aplomb.

21mins Kolarov has a pop from distance but the keeper has it well covered and tips over.

18mins City up the tempo and the home support react accordingly, Dzeko and Silva combining well on the edge of the Villarreal area without the move really going anywhere. But the move was incisive and City are playing with a bit more purpose now. They win a corner but it comes to nothing.

3mins GOOAAALLL! Man City 0-1 Villarreal (Cani) Horrible start for the home side as Silva gives the ball away in midfield allows Rossi to have a flash at goal, his shot is saved by Hart but only as far as Cani who reacts fastest to put the ball in the back of the net from six yards.
