Mega-rich Manchester City are no strangers to splashing the cash, and the club could be opening the purse strings once again very soon, with the January transfer window fast approaching.

On paper the Citizens have the strongest squad in the league, with established stars like David Silva, Joe Hart and Yaya Toure joined by big-money signings Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne last summer.

But with injuries to some players, cracks in the squad have started to appear. Despite the purchase of Wilfried Bony last January, City still can appear toothless in attack without talismanic striker Sergio Aguero.

The same is true in defence, where despite significant outlays by the club on Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi, the Sky Blues have struggled to keep clean sheets without captain Vincent Kompany.

Both Jamie Vardy and Neven Subotic have been linked with the club to fill these gaps in attack and defence respectively. Could they and others be on their way to the Eithad in the next few weeks? IBTimes UK sports reporter Tony Mogan gives his views.
