Manchester United have released a statement on their official Web site accepting the apology from Liverpool Football Club.

On Sunday, Luis Suarez, Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool's general manager Ian Ayre all released statements apologising for the striker's decision to reject Manchester United defender Patrice Evra's offer of a handshake at Old Trafford on Saturday.

In response, Manchester United thanked Liverpool for their apologies and endeavoured to draw a line under the unsavoury spat that has seriously escalated in the last 24 hours.

A statement on the club's official site read: "Manchester United thanks Liverpool for the apologies issued following Saturday's game.

"Everyone at Old Trafford wants to move on from this. The history of our two great clubs is one of success and rivalry unparalleled in British football.

"That should be the focus in the future of all those who love the clubs."
