Alex Song

Napoli are set to fight with Manchester United for Barcelona star Alex Song, reports in Spain claim.

Rafa Benitez has been in the market for a versatile midfielder since the January transfer window when Napoli failed to agree terms with Tottenham for Ettiene Capoue.

The Serie A giants were also recently linked with Javier Mascherano but after the Barcelona midfielder decide to commit his future to the Nou Cam by signing a new deal, Benitez has been looking for other alternatives and according to Sport he is now considering a bid for Song.

Reports in Spain claim the former Arsenal star is not longer in the plans of Barcelona new manager Luis Enrique and the Catalans have offered his services to a number of Premier League suitors with their asking price set at £20m.

Barcelona are embarking in a huge clear-out this summer and following Cesc Fabregas's move to Chelsea they are now looking to cash in on Song, Alexis Sanchez and Dani Alves in order to fund moves for new additions.

Song move to the Nou Camp in 2012 for around £16m but he has failed to replicate his Premier League form at the Nou Camp.

Manchester United, Arsenal and even Chelsea are reportedly interested in his situation but Sport claims none of them are likely to meet the Catalans demands.

Furthermore, Napoli could have an advantage as they reportedly may sweeten the deal by including Barcelona target Gonzalo Higuain as part of the deal.

Nevertheless, Song recently said that should he leave Barcelona his first choice would be to return to the Premier League.

"If I leave Barcelona it will be to return to the Premier League. I will return to England one day, that's for sure," he said.
