Jose Mourinho is set to allow Bastian Schweinsteiger leave this summer with the imminent signing of Paul Pogba on the cards. The Frenchman's arrival will push the Germany international further back in the pecking order and the Portuguese man is willing to trim his squad to make room for other possible transfers in the rest of the summer.

According to the Mirror, Mourinho is keen to give Marouane Fellaini a second chance and the presence of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin and Daley Blind in the middle will make it difficult for the German to stake a claim for himself in the squad. Schweinsteiger is on an extended holiday following his travails in the recently concluded Euro Championship, which has further mollified his chances of making an impression on Mourinho, as he will miss almost the entirety of pre-season.

Schweinsteiger made only 13 starts last season with the Red Devils, including in a 3-0 mauling by Arsenal at the Emirates and the United boss believes that he is well past his prime. Mourinho wants his players to ply with more energy and intensity, which has made it further difficult for Schweinsteiger to stake a claim in the team.

Mourinho has made three signings so far this season in the form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly and is looking to add a few more faces this summer. However, he has to make space for his new additions for which he is willing to sell a few players before the end of the transfer window. Juan Mata and Marcos Rojo are a few others who may get the axe.

"Obviously, there are some players here, who are not going to stay in the squad, so it will be different from where we are at the moment. Day by day, the players [on tour] start winning my trust and start winning their positions in the squad and in the team," Mourinho said.
