Overview

The Premier League champions come into this game after David Moyes saw his side suffer a 1-0 defeat against his former club Everton. Bryan Oviedo's goal in the final quarter of the game saw United suffer a narrow defeat as the Toffees registered their first win at Old Trafford after two decades.

The defeat to Everton saw United's 12 game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end and Moyes will be looking for nothing less than a win when his side face Newcastle for the Premier League clash at home on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Newcastle enter this tie after suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. Nathan Dyer opened the scoring for the Welsh club before the break, which was followed by an own goal from Mathieu Debuchy in the second half before Jonjo Shelvey's goal in the final 10 minutes of the match saw the Swansea seal all three points at home.

The defeat against Swansea has seen the Tyneside club sit seventh in the Premier League table with 23 points from 14 games while United are one point behind Alan Pardew's side in ninth place. A win for the English champions will see them climb above Newcastle on Saturday.

David Moyes: "Four straight wins [before Swansea defeat] is a great record to get.. but obviously they are coming to Old Trafford and we are going to make it as hard for them as we possibly can. People who watched the [Everton] game they would have got lots of belief from it."

Alan Pardew: "I think there'll be a reaction from Man United to their defeat and likewise from us so it will make for a game which is quite pressurised. Therefore we need to have calm heads in that game - and hopefully we can retain the ball better than we did against Swansea."
