Manchester United are reportedly close to completing the signing of Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.

According to the Express, the Spanish giants have sanctioned the move and have told the Argentine that he is free to join the Old Trafford outfit.

The reigning European champions are willing to let the winger leave after months of speculation regarding his future and are said to be expecting a fee in the region of £50m.

Di Maria has been linked with a move away from the club all through the summer and it is believed that he can finally leave the club, after manager Carlo Ancelotti decided it was time to let him go.

Real have made big money signings in Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, therefore, it is likely that Di Maria will not get as much playing time as he desires and thus the decision to let the player go.

The Red Devils are not the only team interested in the skillful winger, as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain were also very keen on landing the player, but pulled out at the last minute due to financial constraints. It was believed that due to the lack of funds available for the transfer, the French capital club were looking at an initial loan deal with an option to buy the following year.

However, United can stump up the cash immediately and Real are said to prefer that, as they look to recoup some of the cash they spent on their summer arrivals from Bayern Munich and AS Monaco, respectively.

Apart from that, Louis van Gaal is also a keen admirer of the player and has publicly admitted that United are missing wide players with the quality of Di Maria, which could tempt the Argentine to choose Manchester over the French capital.

The 27-year-old winger has been a key member of the Real squad for the past couple of seasons and played a starring role in Real's run to their tenth Champions League title in May.
