Free agent Dani Alves, a reported target of Manchester United, is in advanced negotiations with a Premier League club regarding a summer move from Barcelona, reports in Spain claim.

The Brazil international's contract at the Camp Nou is due to expire in the summer and, with the Catalans yet to offer him a renewal deal, he has been free to negotiate a move to another club since January.

Earlier in March, his agent Dinorah Santana revealed the defender was close to agreeing terms with a team other than Barcelona.

"We're close to signing with another club, the talks are advanced," she said. "Barcelona? Dani is always available but he won't wait much longer. They're making Dani look like the baddie in this movie."

And now Spanish journalist Miguel Rico, one the most reliable writers regarding Barcelona, assures in Mundo Deportivo that Alves is in "very advanced negotiations" with an unnamed Premier League club.

Nevertheless, Rico, who broke the story regarding Cesc Fabregas's move to Chelsea in the summer of 2014, as well as Victor Valdes's arrival to Old Trafford, claims the Brazilian will not sign the deal until he knows what Barcelona's plans are, as staying at the Camp Nou is still his first choice.

The report claims the defender will make a final decision after Barcelona's game against Real Madrid on 22 March, when the club are expected to meet with Santana to reveal whether they want Alves to stay, offering him a new deal, or are happy to let him leave.

When asked at the end of February about the situation, Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu said: "We are already planning next year with Rexach and Braida [sporting directors] and other officials. They are working. I don't know whether Alves will renew his contract, we will have time to discuss that."

Earlier in the season, Alves admitted he would like to have an experience in the Premier League and has since been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

United manager Louis van Gaal is looking for a right-back to replace out-of-favour Rafael and in February, Catalan-based newspaper Sport claimed Alves's agent was set to fly to England to meet with United's officials to discuss a potential move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Porto star Danilo, also linked to United in recent weeks, is said to be on the verge of completing his move to Real Madrid.
