Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Chile international played a crucial role in helping the Old Lady win the Italian league for the first time in nine years and talkSport reports the Red Devils have approached the Turin club over a potential move for the 25 year old.

The Daily Mirror reports United will face competition from cross-town rivals Manchester City and Spanish champions Real Madrid in the race for the midfielder, who can operate either as a box-to-box runner or an anchorman. The report also claims Juventus would be willing to negotiate for a fee in the region of £40m and not stand in the player's way, if he wished to move to Spain or England.

Vidal joined the Italian champions from German club Bayer Leverkusen in 2011 for £10.5m and has four more years on his contract. He was particularly impressive during the club's 2-2 draw Champions League draw at Chelsea in the opening round of group games, when he scored his team's first goal.

Ferguson Praises Cisse

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Newcastle United forwards Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi, after the Magpies visited for a League Cup game.

The hosts emerged 2-1 winners at Old Trafford but Cisse came up with an impressive performance, scoring soon after coming on as a second-half substitute and later hitting the crossbar with an overhead kick.

"It was tough because Ameobi is a massive man. Cisse is a terrific player. Newcastle had a stronger team than us physically. Our defence handled it well. We want to progress as far as we can. Winning is always important to this club. I'm very pleased. First to win the tie in an all-Premier League clash - we played fantastic football and I think we deserved it," BBC quoted Ferguson as saying.

United have been drawn away to Chelsea in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.
