The agent of Nemanja Vidic has dismissed speculation that the defender could join AC Milan this summer despite reports suggesting he could be replaced at Manchester United by Benfica's Ezequiel Garay.

Vidic was linked with a move to the Italian giants over the weekend who are said to be keen to partner the Serbian with Philippe Mexes as they look to build a side capable of challenging Juventus and Napoli for the title.

The 31 year old struggled with numerous injuries last season and was only able to make 23 appearances in all competitions. A knee problem had caused havoc with his 2011-12 campaign and there were suggestions he could be replaced at United by Garay.

However, Vidic's agent Silvano Martina has made it clear that this is merely speculation and that the defender has no intention of leaving Manchester United.

Martina told Fantagazzetta: "We are talking with no-one. This is all pub talk. This is the first time I heard that news and I don't know where it came from.

"We're talking about the captain of Manchester United here, not just any player. Vidic has no problems with United - all the talk is hot air."

Vidic has been at the heart of United's defence ever since he arrived back in January 2006 but after two injury wrecked seasons there have been reports that new manager David Moyes may look to bring in another world class centre-back.

Argentina international Garay has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time after two hugely impressive seasons at Benfica.

With United also making an offer for Everton defender Leighton Baines, Moyes may well decide that he wants a new look defence.

Despite winning the Premier League title last season, there were some question marks over the Manchester United defence after the consistently conceded the first goal throughout the season.

Baines would likely be a replacement for 32 year old Patrice Evra, while Garay at just 26 years of age could be viewed as a long term successor to either Vidic or Rio Ferdinand.
