The 47-year- old actor was decorated with Al Kafaa Fikria (intellectual merit) Wissam honour over the weekend by HRH Prince Moulay Rachid.

The actor was joined by Melita Toscan du Plantier, director of the film festival, Prince Moulay and veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan over a dinner banquet hosted by HM King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the official opening of the film festival which is in its 12th year. The FIFM is on till 8 December.

Khan shared his experience of Morocco, where he is quite popular, on twitter.

"Thanx (Thanks) my frıend Melıta for the honour and happiness. All the best for the rest of the festival," the elated actor tweeted, adding, "Thanx (Thanks) everyone for the wishes from Morocco. His Highness the King and the Prince were so gracious with their hospitality and the function."

Khan's recent film - Jab Tak Hai Jaan- was screened at the festival in the presence of the actor.

Khan is the first Indian actor to get the Moroccan royal honour, though it's his second honour in the country. At the opening ceremony of the 11th Marrakech International Film Festival last year, Moroccan actress Houda Rihani presented an award to Khan in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema.

The FIFM is one of the country's biggest events dedicated to Moroccan cinema. The event honors actors from the rest of the world. This year, the film festival is paying a special tribute to Hindi cinema, which will celebrate its centenary next year, by screening a number of Bollywood films throughout the festival.
