BioWare and EA have revealed a new trailer for upcoming RPG sequel Mass Effect Andromeda, hinting at the game's plot. The story sees a small crew from the Solar System embark on a journey of discovery in the dangerous and uncharted Andromeda galaxy.

The story, it seems, will revolve around the player characters being the "aliens" in this foreign galaxy, and their discovery of powerful alien tech. In the trailer we glimpse what appears to be the main villain of the game from behind, as well as an away of enormous alien creatures.

The trailer was launched on 7 November, otherwise known as N7 Day – a day BioWare and its fans celebrate the enormously popular Mass Effect series.

It was also announced that Mass Effect 2 and 3 are now available via Xbox One backwards compatibility, meaning the entire trilogy is now available.

At E3 in June, BioWare confirmed the game's protagonist would be called Ryder – later revealing that players would get to choose between a male and female Ryder, with the other appearing in the game as their sibling.

Earlier today BioWare's voiceover producer Caroline Livingstone revealed the two Ryder's would be played by Fryda Wolff and Tom Taylorson.

Originally set to launch in 2016, EA announced earlier this year that it was pushing back the game's release until some time between January and March 2017. In May, BioWare confirmed added that the decision was made to "make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be."

At Sony's PlayStation Meeting in September, a first look at gameplay was revealed, showing protagonist Ryder walking and squadmates making their way through an alien environment. This was used to show off the capabilities of Sony's new PS4 Pro console.

BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn also revealed at the time that the developer will showcase a brand new Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer on N7 Day (7 November) when it would "officially open the doors to the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe".

Mass Effect Andromeda will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC in Spring 2017.
