Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is considering a reunion with Espanyol centre-back Hector Moreno at White Hart Lane, reports in Spain claim.

Moreno's agent recently revealed his client is seeking a step forward in his career to a big club with Manchester United reportedly leading the race to secure his services – as they are desperately looking to add at least one centre-back following Nemanja Vidic's and Rio Ferdinand's departure.

"Moreno is leaving Espanyol. He wants to leave and we're looking for another team in Europe," Moreno's agent said.

Louis van Gaal knows Moreno well after coaching him at AZ Alkmaar and during his long managerial career he has a strong history of being keen on reuniting with his former players.

But now Spanish newspaper AS reports that Tottenham are set to join the race to secure the defender's services as Pochettino is looking to replace Michael Dawson with Moreno, who he enjoyed a close relationship with during his time at Espanyol.

The Argentinian boss signed Moreno from AZ Alkmaar in 2011 during his spell in La Liga and the Mexican international has since become one of the most valued defenders in Spain.

AS reveal Pochettino and Spurs technical director Franco Baldini met in Barcelona on Wednesday to discuss their summer transfer plans with Moreno being one of their top priorities.

Espanyol are open to negotiating a summer deal but AS says the Catalans are likely to postpone his sale until after the World Cup as they believe his value will increase as Mexico advance through the competition.
