hree Maryland public school system employees came forward as the winners of the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot, lottery officials announced on Tuesday according to FOX News. The revelation of the three official winners puts an end to the Mega Millions mess stirred by Maryland McDonald's employee Mirlande Wilson, who claimed she held one of the golden tickets. Reuters

The winning ticket on Friday's Mega Millions was sold in Maryland's Baltimore County, said Maryland lottery officials on early Saturday, 31 March, 2012.

The winning numbers for the ticket are 46, 23, 38, 4, 2 and Mega Ball 23.

The winner will be walking away with a lumpsum payment of $462 million as the biggest lottery prize reached $640 million on Friday.

The chances of winning were 1 out of 176 million as the ticket sales soared at the last moment ticking at 14 million in one hour. Friday sales were expected to cross one million in Washington DC itself.

A total of 42 states apart from the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands participated in the biggest lottery in US history in terms of the jackpot prize.

The draw failed 18 times since 27 January because of no clear winner for the jackpot numbers.
