Microsoft Edge web browser will get the background download feature in a future update Microsoft

Technology giant Microsoft, which is set to release the much expected Windows 10 Mobile shortly after the release of the PC version of the new OS, has confirmed that it would integrate the intuitive download in the background feature in the form of an update to its new Edge web browser.

Microsoft's Edge web browser will be available to Windows 10 Mobile users in the form of a standalone app, albeit without the background downloading feature initially.

However, Microsoft's Ade Bateman, program manager for the Edge web browser, has made it official that Microsoft will support background downloading, after users install Edge. He stated that Microsoft engineers are currently working on this feature which will be deployed in future updates to the Edge web browser app.

What does Background Download feature do?

This functionality lets Windows 10 Mobile users download all their favourite content from the web, even when the Edge web browser window is kept closed.

This aspect helps users multitask efficiently, without worrying if the downloads are taking place at all.

Microsoft's brand new Edge web browser aka project Spartan will replace the current Internet Explorer web browser that is found by default in the Windows Phone 8.1 platform.

Edge comes with Cortana integration, and users only need to highlight a word or phrase of interest and hold/right-click and then Ask Cortana to obtain additional information about the topic.
