Microsoft, which is widely expected to launch its next-gen smartphones Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL on 6 October, could put an affordable price tag on the handsets as per the latest rumours. Both the devices are said to be flagship offerings.

According to a Spanish e-tailer (website translated), the Microsoft Lumia 950 would be priced at €659 ($736, £475) and the Lumia 950 XL at €749 ($837, £540). The prices indicate that both the smartphones could fall in the budget segment. The devices could face intense competition from similar-range smartphones such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and prominent Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Key technical specs of the upcoming Lumia handsets are yet to surface officially, but according to earlier reports, the devices were rumoured to feature the following:

  • 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB internal storage
  • MicroSD card slot for expansion of internal storage
  • USB Type-C support
  • LTE, HSPA, GSM, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 2.0 and microUSB connectivity
  • 3,300 mAh removable battery.

Lumia 950

  • 5.2in 2K display
  • 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB internal storage
  • MicroSD card slot for expansion of internal storage
  • HSPA, GSM, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 2.0 and microUSB connectivity
  • Type-C USB support
  • 3,000 mAh removable battery

Microsoft's new Windows 10 Mobile could also make its debut with the Lumia 950/950XL. The Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets that are rumoured to drive both the smartphones are also said to support Quick Charge 2.0 rapid battery-charging technology. Theoretically, this functionality ensures that the battery within a smartphone is charged up to as much as 60% in just 30 minutes.
