Microsoft Lumia Denim will now allow you to download future software updates directly to your MicroSD card
Certain Lumia smartphones will allow future software updates to be downloaded directly to the microSD card, post installation of Microsoft's Lumia Denim software update. Nokia

Lumia smartphone users owning devices running on the Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 platform are in for a treat via the Lumia Denim update, which has started seeding to a number of Lumia phones across the world.

Apart from the regular enhancements brought along by the Lumia Denim update [including Cortana, Windows Phone 8.1 update 1 and new Apps Corner], the software allows users to download updates directly to the SD card, according to an official statement by Microsoft.

To test the above feature, install the Lumia Denim update bearing version number 8.10.14219.341 (or above versions) on your Lumia smartphones.

As of now, Microsoft has limited the software update download to MicroSD card functionality, to selected Lumia devices mentioned below. Check out whether you are a owner of the below mentioned Microsoft smartphones.

  • Lumia 530 (both single SIM-card and dual SIM-card variants)
  • Lumia 630 (both single SIM-card and dual SIM-card versions)
  • Lumia 635
  • Lumia 636
  • Lumia 638
  • Lumia 730 (dual SIM-card variant)
  • Lumia 735
  • Lumia 830

With the Denim update [8.10.14219.341] installed, you should be able to download future software updates, directly to your phone's microSD card.

Microsoft's other Lumia devices [even with microSD card support] including the Lumia 520, Lumia 525, Lumia 620, Lumia 625, Lumia 720, Lumia 820, Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520 will not allow you to download phone software updates to the microSD storage.
