Miley Cyrus has gone nude again as she prepares to host the VMA's. The controversial singer, renowned for her tendency to strip off down to her nipple pasties, is giving audiences a taste of things to come on music's big night, as she is let loose before a live global audience. The We Want To singer posted a naked selfie from her bathroom with the telling message - "VMA ready."

But TV bosses are also prepared for the 22-year-old's notoriously shocking antics and have set up a delay feature during the live broadcast, enabling them to cut away in the very likely event that Cyrus takes things too far.

In an interview with Billboard Magazine executive producer Van Toffler, said of Cyrus: "She feels like the perfect host. She's that that great marriage of music credibility, candour, she uses social media so well to express herself and she's provocative and chaotic and unpredictable, everything we want for this show...We have [planned] a lot of wide camera shots and a lot of audience reaction shows. And we have a delay so we're prepared for her. There's a chance for anything," he admitted.

The former Disney star made a controversial appearance at the 2013 awards when she twerked her way through a raunchy performance with Blurred Lines singer Robin Thicke. Speaking out after her racy performance she said: ""Me and Robin [Thicke,] the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now,'" she said in her interview with MTV.

She later stated that she had wanted to perform the song topless, but settled for being as "naked as possible" in a nude plastic bikini. The raunchy routine was the most talked about incident from the show, reportedly drawing 306,000 tweets per minute and it cemented Cyrus's reputation for sexual showmanship.

Of course the VMA's has a strong track record for controversial appearances. In 1994, Michael Jackson shocked audiences with an unexpected PDA with then wife Lisa-Marie Presley. In 1995 Courtney Love famously crashed a live interview with Madonna leading to an off-camera bust-up.

Madonna's 2003 make out session with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera caused a sensation and in 2009 Kanye West left jaws dropping when he stormed the stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. His conduct had President Obama describe him as a jerk. There was happier news in 2011, when Beyonce used the VMA stage to announce that she was pregnant with her first child. Just months later she gave birth to her daughter Blue Ivy.

But the antics of earlier stars seem tame next to Miley. With all eyes on her as host there's no knowing what the Wrecking Ball singer has in store, but you can bet she'll be doing it with her clothes off.

The #VMAs are ALMOST here! Who are you most excited to see?! https://t.co/ci77nH6U9v
