The Tech 3 rider, who was also the fastest in free practice sessions, set a new record by completing the lap in 1m 55.527s to see off competition from all his much-decorated rivals. Gresini's Alvaro Bautista finished a surprise second, while championship leader and Honda rider Marc Marquez had to settle for third.

Qualifying Review

Crutchlow, who became the first British rider in 11 years to achieve a MotoGP pole position when he topped the qualifying times in Assen back in June, came up with yet another impressive performance at Brno on Saturday to outpace the favourites.

Bautista second-place finish meant Honda's Dani Pedrosa ended the session fourth, while his compatriot and Yahama's defending champions Jorge Lorenzo was just behind at fifth.

Meanwhile, Crutchlow's team-mate and fellow Briton Bradley Smith also impressed, taking sixth position and finishing above seven-time champion and Yamaha star Valentino Rossi. LCR's Stefan Bradl and Ducati duo Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden completed the top 10.

Marquez is currently leading the championship standings with 188 points. Compatriots Pedrosa (167) and Lorenzo (153) occupy the second and third spots, while Crutchlow is fifth on 127 points.
