Qualifying Review

For the first time this year, defending champion Marc Marquez failed to take pole after starting the first six races from the front. The 21-year-old Spaniard has finished on top in all the races this season and will start the Catalunya Grand Prix from the third spot.

Pedrosa was the fastest during the qualifying session as the Honda rider clocked a time of 1:40.985s and was 0.115s ahead of Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo. The championship leader Marquez's time of 1:41.135s has seen him lock horns with Pedrosa and Lorenzo for the front grid.

LCR rider Stefan Bradl was fourth and Lorenzo's Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi the fifth. After his impressive performance in the Free Practice 2 at Circuit de Catalunya on Friday, Tech 3 rider Bradley Smith failed to replicate his form during the qualifying session.

The British rider managed to finish in the top 10 and will start Sunday's race from the eight spot after clocking a time of 1:41.491s.
