Honda rider Marc Marquez was the fastest during the second practice session of the 2017 Grand Prix of the Americas on Friday. The defending champion has achieved success on last four occasions and will be looking to win the race for the fifth consecutive time on Sunday.

Practice review

Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales was the fastest during Free Practice 1 on Friday after the Spaniard clocked a time of 2:04.923s. Marquez was 0.577s behind him in the second place. However, the Honda rider managed to beat his compatriot at Free Practice 2 to clinch the top spot.

Marquez clocked a time of 2:04.061s, while Vinales was forced to settle for the third spot as he was 0.390s behind the reigning champion. Tech 3 rider Johann Zarco finished the second practice session behind Marquez.

Vinales' Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi was fourth, while Marquez teammate and Honda rider Dani Pedrosa was behind the Italian rider in fifth place. Honda will be hoping the Spanish duo can finish the qualifying session on top in order to put them in a firm position to win the Sunday's race.
