HTC and Motorola are lining up major smartphone launches in the year 2012 but there two high-end smartphones -- HTC Ville and Motorola Droid 4 -- which are set to hit the shelves soon with feature-rich specifications.

Droid line of smartphones are widely touted as the best selling smartphones from Motorola, while HTC capitalized on the opportunity last year by launching various lines of handsets when other smartphone giants were still readying their smartphones for year-end launch. HTC had its share of success as it it gained major share last year in both the US and the UK market.

HTC Ville is heading to T-Mobile this Spring in the US and is expected to be a power demon with a powerful processor taking on other high-end smartphones in the market alongwith Super AMOLED display. Also Motorola Droid 4's most prominent features include nano-coating that is water-repellant, full QWERTY keyboard, 4G LTE and FIPS 140-2 government-grade encryption for the calendar contacts and email.

Many reports surrounding HTC Ville smartphone are based on the announcement made during the Mobile World Congress in February while Motorola Droid 4 was announced by Verizon at the latest CES and is expected to be released during Q1 of 2012.

Here is a look at how these two smartphons fare against each other:

HTC Ville has a 4.3-inch 540 x 960 pixels Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen compared to Motorola Droid 4's 4-inch 540 x 960 pixel TFT capacitive touchscreen. Usually, HTC smarpthones don't come with Super AMOLED display, but HTC Ville is an exception with its high-end display. Since, HTC is known for good design, the company may make some heads turn in days to come.

Input features:
The input features found in Motorola Droid 4 include touch-sensitive controls, QWERTY slide-out keyboard, accelerometer and proximity sensor while features found in HTC Ville include HTC Sense UI 4.0, accelerometer and proximity sensor.

Motorola Droid 4 has a dimension of 127 x 67.3 x 12.7 mm and weighs 178.9g. Although the entire dimension of HTC Ville is not yet revealed, the latest reports reveal that HTC Ville is going to be the thinnest smartphone from HTC with an 8-mm thin waistline which makes it thinner than Samsung Galaxy S2's thinnest model standing at 8.5 mm thin.

HTC Ville is expected to come with 32 GB storage and 1 GB RAM while Droid 4 retains similar capacity RAM but will feature 16 GB storage.

The smartphone from HTC will have HSDPA 21 Mbps and HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps speed whereas Motorola's smartphone will support Rev. A, up to 3.1 Mbps. Moreover, Droid 4 has 4G LTE support which will not be found in HTC Ville.

Features like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.0 with LE+EDR and microUSB version 2.0 are found in Droid 4 while HTC Ville has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.0 with A2DP, EDR along with microUSB version 2.0 support.

Both the smartphones feature 8-megapixel 3264x2448 pixels with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection and image stabilization along with 1080p video capture support.

Operating system:
Droid 4 will have Android Operating System (OS) version 2.3 (Gingerbread) and HTC Ville will come with Android OS version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

With dual core 1.5 GHz processor HTC Ville stands tall against Droid 4's TI OMAP 4430 Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 processor.

Motorola Droid 4 has a Li-Ion 1785 mAh battery which gives a talk time of up to 12 hours and 30 minutes whereas HTC Ville will come with Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery.

Further, HTC Ville will have unique feature like Beats Audio while Droid 4 will come with HDMI port. The mobile hotspot capability in Droid 4 will allow a maximum of eight Wi-Fi- capable devices to utilize its 4G LTE connectivity and the device features a mirror mode which transmits videos or images into an HDTV.


Droid 4 is expected to be priced at $249.99 with a two-year contract with Verizon. HTC Ville price is not yet fixed.
