The Mozilla Firefox 40 that supports Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system is now available for download on the Firefox portal.

Existing Mozilla users will automatically be upgraded to Firefox 40, while those who wish to download it can do so from Google Play as well.

What's new?

For desktops (Windows, Mac and Linux):

The browser has been tweaked to provide a more "streamlined feel" and incorporates a new "user interface" tailor-made for Windows 10.

The search option in Firefox 40 has been updated and users can preserve what they have searched for earlier on the web. When the new search field is used, and Firefox is set as the default browser, all searches on the internet from the taskbar field would be displayed.

Users will also notice that searches via Cortana will be diverted to the browser if it is set as default.

In Windows 10, Microsoft Edge has been set as the default web browser, however, users can change the web browser, by following the steps below.

Moreover, in Firefox 40, users would notice warnings whenever unsigned add-ons are launched. According to Mozilla, only certified add-ons will be enabled.

Firefox 40 also incorporates a new style for add-on manager based on the in-content preferences style. Further, the Firefox Hello feature has been updated and users can now embed links to conversations.

For Android

Firefox 40 for Android automatically blocks malicious software from downloading. Users are notified about unwanted files/apps being downloaded.

Apart from the enhanced security features, users will also be able to launch the history list by long pressing the back/forward navigation buttons.

Users would also notice that large images would consuming comparatively less memory when scaled.
