The defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians start to the ninth edition started with a disappointment as they suffered a nine wicket defeat at the hands of Rising Pune Supergiants at the Wankhede Stadium.

It was Ajinkya Rahane's unbeaten 66 runs from 42 deliveries that helped the IPL newcomers seal their first win on their debut. The team led by MS Dhoni could not have asked for a much better start than this as they registered a crushing victory on 9 April.

Mumbai Indians made 121 runs, losing eight wickets from their 20 overs. In reply, the Supergiants chased the target comfortably with over 30 balls to spare.

At the same time, Rohit Sharma's side will have serious homework to be done in order to analyse what went wrong in their season opener in front of their home fans. A disappointing start to Mumbai Indians' campaign and they will need to bounce back when they face Kolkata Knight Riders in the next match on 13 April. IBTimes UK have collected some reactions from Twitter after the match.

3 International T20 skippers mingled into a single team. No wonder if you call that a 'supergiant' team. @RPSupergiants #MIvRPS #IPL2016
