Nasa astronaut Reid Wiseman has provided a unique view of a lightning storm over Texas on a Vine video recorded on the International Space Station (ISS).

Wiseman has built a loyal following on social media since blasting into space in May and arriving at the £60 billion space laboratory.

His breathtaking photos of Earth, as well as shots giving an insight into life on board ISS, have been favourited and retweeted tens of thousands of times.

The most recently uploaded video showed a huge lightning storm over Houston, Texas.

The clip came just two days after Wiseman captured similar images of a storm over Malaysia.

The astronaut is one of six men living aboard the station, which orbits about 260 miles above Earth.

More than 40 current astronauts from the United States, Europe, Japan, Russia and Canada use Twitter but Wiseman holds the distinction of being the first one to post a Vine, a looping video.

In an interview with CBS News, Wiseman said his favourite photo so far is of the northern Australian coast.

"The way the clouds and the red desert met the ocean, it's burned in my mind," he said.
