The CW has released a new promo for The Flash season 3 that teases the ramifications of Barry Allen's decision to travel back in time to save his mother Nora Allen in the season 2 finale. In the promo titled Time Strikes Back, Barry warns Joe West and Cisco Ramon about the potential villain Savitar.

The video opens with Barry asking Henry Allen, "Where are we?" To which his father replies that they are in "Motorcar diner in Central City". Barry then asks, "No... I meant, what year?" Then we see Barry trying to explain the Flashpoint to his former Star Labs team.

"I went back in time, and created a whole new existence," explains Barry by drawing the blueprint on a board. Cisco, who is a billionaire in this timeline, asserts, "So there's a timeline where I'm not rich, there's a glitch in the universe."

The video states, "See what happens when time strikes back," and introduces the new villain Savitar, who is seen in a black robe with many followers bowing before him.

Meanwhile, showrunner Todd Helbing spoke to TVLine about the new villain. He said, "Savitar in Hindu means 'the god of speed,' and he has this sort of cult-like essence, where he's sort of like the speed god. But everything about him is different than Zoom or Reverse-Flash. I can't go into too much detail, but he's quite a bit different."

The season 3 of The CW series has added Grey Damon as Mirror Master, and Awkward star Ashley Rickards as The Top –one of the most dangerous members of the Rogues team. Another villain called Dr Alchemy is also set to appear in season 3.

The Flash season 3 returns with the Flashpoint timeline and new challenges for Barry on 4 October at 8pm EST on The CW network.
