Sony is expected to launch a large screen tablet in first half of next year Sony

Apart from the new Xperia Z4 series devices including a flagship smartphone and its variants, there is a new Xperia tablet in Sony's production lineup for next year.

According to DigiTimes, which cites sources from the supply chain, Sony is planning to launch a large-screen tablet in the first half of 2015. The tablet will enter mass production shortly, the sources have said.

In terms of internal hardware components, Sony's upcoming 12in tablet will be a top-notch device targeting the high-end buyers. The price of the tablet might be above $1,000 (£643).

Pegatron Technology, which manufactures Apple's iPad and Microsoft's Surface series tablets, is expected to manufacture Sony's new tablet.

As for the technical specifications, the upcoming Xperia tablet will sport a 12.9in screen with resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels. The thickness of the tablet will be just 8.6mm, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor will power the device. Additionally, there will be an eight megapixel rear snapper.

The sources added that the supply chain has already finished preparing the related components for the tablet's mass production.

Although Sony has already withdrawn from the PC market, it still remains aggressive in pursuing tablets.

The sources have said more manufacturers are likely to launch large-screen tablets in 2015, a development that may have impact on demand for notebooks.
