Romance was in the air when fashion designer Richard Chai unveiled his LOVE Fall 2012 as well as Womenswear Fall 2012 and Menswear Fall 2012 collections at New York fashion Week.

The American designer's gender-bending collections included powerful looks for women including top coats, tweed jackets and pinstripe trousers and slimmer and shorter trousers for the men in his "handsomely feminine" collection.

The mostly grey ensemble featured tailored blazers and button-down shirts with flashes of femininity.

Chai also offered some sheer layers and some designs in a pretty red floral print ion a bid to offer some contrast.

Speaking to the New York Times, Chai explained that he did not want to do anything that was tricky for his.

He said: "I didn't want to create looks that were just for the show. I wanted it to be approachable and believable, but also be really aspirational."

Stand out pieces included stadium and duffel coats, which appealing to all sorts of customers as well as his full length rose skirt with the rose print trimmed burgundy top.
