Overview

New Zealand have been the dominant side in the last three One Day internationals and have outplayed India on a regular basis in the recently concluded games.

The last game between the two sides ended in a tie, but captain Brendan McCullum will feel hard done by the performance of his bowlers, who should have done better to restrict India in the final 15 overs of the game.

The two teams met in Hamilton for the second ODI where the hosts won by 15 runs owing to the Duckworth Lewis method after the game was interrupted due to rain.

New Zealand's score, which stood at 277, was increased to 292 according to the norms as India succumbed to a score of 277 runs. Tim Southee and Corey Anderson were the pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis, taking four and three wickets respectively. The hosts are likely to choose to bat first iof they win the toss, in a slow wicket which is likely to regress as the match goes on.

India have seen their year start off in wretched fashion, coming into the series on the back of a 2-0 loss to South Africa in the ODI series and are currently trailing the hosts by two games.

Winning their next two games will ascertain their position as the number one ranked team in the country but Mahendra Singh Dhoni has to marshal his troops better in order to have any chance of keeping them in the hunt. The captain will be inspired by their performance in the last ODI, where a cameo from Ramchandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja showed a semblance of a fight which India have been missing all season.
