Overview

Newcastle come into this game after a 2-1 victory over Cardiff City before the international break. Loic Remy's two first half goals gave Alan Pardew's men the lead before the break. Peter Odemwingie scored a goal for the hosts in the second half, but his strike could not help Malky Mackay's side avoid defeat.

The Tyneside club have won three of their last five games played in all competitions and have bounced back after their poor start to the league campaign. Newcastle are 11th in the Premier League table with 10 points from seven games and are level on points with Aston Villa and Manchester United, with goal difference separating the three teams.

Meanwhile, Liverpool went to the international break after a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace in which striker Luis Suarez made his first home appearance of the season after serving a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Suarez took 13 minutes to give his side the lead before strike partner Daniel Sturridge doubled it four minutes later. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard converted from the spot-kick.

Liverpool are second in the table with 16 points from seven games and are level on points with league leaders Arsenal.

What The Managers Say

Alan Pardew: "The most important thing is his [Yanga-Mbiwa] response on the pitch, but his response in training has been very good. Sometimes you need to come out to have a little breather. You could perhaps say his chance has come early, with Colo's injury, to come back in, so it will be interesting, his performance."

Brendan Rodgers: "We'll arrive with our strongest squad of the season against Newcastle United. They haven't been playing games but they've been training for the last few weeks. Glen Johnson will be back, Joe Allen will be back, Aly Cissokho will be back. As I said, it will be out strongest available squad this season."
