He recently confirmed his status as one of the world's best players by securing third place at his year's Ballon d'Or and bringing home the Olympic cup for Brazil at Rio, and now Neymar can add aspiring pop star to his impressive CV. The Barcelona striker has delved into the world of music.
On 14 September, the football sensation − who has always shown great interest for music − gave fans a teaser of his debut single Yo Necesito (I Need) on his Facebook page. He belted out the lyrics to his track in Portuguese. Although his vocals left much to be desired he appeared in good spirits and excited about his new venture. "I want to tell the news to my fans first and, I'm launching my first album," he said, as he sat in front of a piano.
Fans soon flocked online to share their views on the new song and the general consensus is that he should stick with football.
"Unbelievable. Neymar always breaks records in football as a positive and in music as negative," one said. Another wrote: "As a singer you are a very good footballer."
A third added: "Continue with football, you do our ears a big favour."
However, one said: "Congratulations, beautiful music."
Although his musical ambitions may appear a little left field for some, if he does pull off the transition he will be hoping to emulate the same chart success of fellow Brazilian football legend Pelé, who released his own album as well as a recent song called Hope.
The 24-year-old sports star, who once belted out the chart-topping song Ai Se Eu Te Pego on stage with Brazilian superstar Michel Teló, announced that he would be taking his career in a new direction following Barcelona's shock 2-1 defeat at home to Alavés. "This Wednesday I begin my music career and I'm going to release my first song on Facebook," he told fans before adding: "We will have 'Neymusico'. Share it"
