Nick Kyrgios has revealed that the last few weeks of tennis has taken a toll on him and he badly needs a rest.

The controversial Australian has had a very successful past two months where he reached the semi-final in Mexico, defeating Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final, before defeating him again in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open.

Kyrgios went on to reach the quarter-final in Indian Wells where a clash with Roger Federer awaited. However, a case of food poisoning ruled the 21-year-old out.

His meeting with Federer would eventually come in the semi-final in Miami as Kyrgios tested the Australian Open champion all the way in a three-hour classic. With all three sets going into a tie-break, it was Federer who eventually triumphed.

Remaining optimistic and claiming that he's "in the best place I've ever been in", the 21-year-old went on to help Australia advance to the semi-final of the Davis Cup after defeating Sam Querrey in straight sets on Sunday (9 April).

In what has undoubtedly been the best two-month spell of his career, Kyrgios, who jumped from 17th to 15th in world rankings, now craves some rest.

"Honestly, I think the last two months has taken a lot out of me," he said, as quoted on Tennis.com.au. "I've got Monte Carlo up next. But my body, I am feeling it a little bit."

"Emotionally, this week takes a lot out of you. Every day, you get close to the tie, practice becomes a bit more intense. I think I need a bit of a rest. I've played a lot of tennis in the last month.

"I'm looking forward to the clay court season. I played well on clay last year, had a couple of good results. I think I'm going to go home now, a couple days off, maybe go to Florida and see my girlfriend."

Davis Cup action will resume in September when Australia take on Belgium in the semi-final. However, the Monte-Carlo Masters will begin on 15 April so Kyrgios will be looking to make the most out of the next few days.
