Protesters from the group 'No Borders' have clashed with police tonight after trying to storm St Pancras railway station. There were scenes of violence as up to 150 protestors tried to force their way into the UK terminal for Eurostar services to Europe.

Calling for a relaxation of borders they staged the demonstration to highlight the desperate plight of migrants attempting to travel from the Calais to the UK. They carried banners reading: "The people want to bring down the borders" and "We don't cross borders, borders cross us."

One protester, who declined to be named, told Mail Online: "We demand that the UK and the US and the EU open their borders to all migrants and refugees. We demand that Theresa May shuts down all detention centres and end all deportation."

They were blocked by officers from the Met and British Transport Police as they tried to get on to Eurostar platforms. The demonstration turned violent when paint and smoke bombs were thrown as police brandished metal truncheons to force protesters back from the mental barriers and away from the station. Police said that some demonstrators who broke through a police line were 'swiftly ejected'.

The activists also tried to pour red liquid on the floor of the station to symbolise the blood of those migrants who have died trying to use the Channel Tunnel to enter Britain. Eventually the activists were removed and made their way along to nearby Granary Square, where they continued to protest.

A spokesman from British Transport Police said: "At around 6pm a number of protesters arrived at St Pancras rail station and officers are currently facilitating a peaceful protest.

"Around this time a number of other individuals arrived at the station causing disorder, and missiles, including smoke bombs were thrown at police officers. This group were dispersed by police and officers remain at the station."

They added there had been no arrests or injuries.

Meanwhile Southeastern Trains asked passengers to allow extra time for their journeys as there could be delays. There are no reported delays on the Eurostar. The demonstration comes just a week after another protest by 250 people in support of migrants at the London Eurostar terminus.

Europe's biggest refugee and migrant crisis since World War II has seen hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East, Asia and Africa this year, with hundreds losing their lives in treacherous voyages across the Mediterranean.
