Norwegian midfield sensation Martin Odegaard is reportedly set to go for a trial with Liverpool before Christmas.

According to the Daily Mail, the Stromsgodset player, who created history last month when he became the youngest player to represent his country at the European qualifiers, will spend a week at Liverpool.

The young midfielder has been a Liverpool fan all his life, and it was believed that his first option will be the Reds despite interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.

However, Brendan Rodgers will have competition on his hands to land the prodigious talent as he has already spent a similar trial period with Real Madrid and also has similar offers from Dutch club Ajax and United.

Odegaard was also recently heard praising Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the report claims that he labelled the Bavarian giants as the best club in the world, hinting that he might choose Germany as his next destination following his departure from Sweden during the summer.

The 15-year-old midfielder has been likened to Andres Iniesta and Xavi by Scandinavian football expert and scout Fabrizio Bertuzzi, and he believes that is why the Catalan club are so keen to sign the midfielder ahead of other interested clubs.

"I am not surprised Barcelona are interested. He features a mix of both Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Despite being an adolescent he is almost a semi-god of football," Bertuzzi said.

Odegaard, who has been also likened to Messi in Norway and is currently balancing school life along with his professional life, understands that he needs to focus more on the future and not push himself too much now.

"If you get carried away now, you won't get far in 10 years. I'm supposed to be at my best then, not now. That I know," Odegaard said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
