Notting Hill Carnival fever swept up three police officers who launched into an impromptu dance routine to the delight of revellers on Bank Holiday Sunday.

Since being posted on YouTube over the Bank Holiday weekend, the video has racked up nearly a quarter of a million views.

Footage shows the officers all in uniform and high visibility jackets doing a routine which even included 'twerking' - rapid shaking of the hips.

They then sit down and form a conga line for a few seconds before ending the routine to cheers from onlookers.

Twerking is a dance move which former child star Miley Cyrcus has quite literally thrust up the public agenda by gyrating suggestively at this year's MTV Awards - to mixed reactions.

But the response to the officers' use of the twerk in this novel example of community policing has been overwhelmingly positive, on social media.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said no action was being taken against the officers involved.

This year was the 49th carnival in west London celebrating multicultural London. There were 437 arrests in total between Friday and Monday.
