Peter Staley has been jailed for a string of child sex offences Reuters

A judge has branded Nottingham paedophile Peter Staley the most "disgusting" man he had ever encountered before jailing him for 16 years. Staley, of Sycamore Crescent, Sandiacre, admitted sexually abusing girls as young as 10 in attacks dating back to the 1980s.

He pleaded guilty to 16 of the 17 charges he faced at Nottingham Crown Court and was jailed on Tuesday (27 October). His victims were aged between 10 and 14 when the offences took place and only came to light when one of the girls told her school teacher. Other victims then summoned the courage to do the same, the Ilkestone Advertiser reported.

The pervert was unrepentant when first questioned by police, telling officers that an 11-year-old victim initiated the sexual contact. Handing down the sentence, Judge Michael Stokes, said: "In the years I have been a judge I have had to deal with some pretty disgusting men and you are in a category of your own. Throughout this period of abuse you were an adult and they were children. You have repeatedly groomed and abused four young girls.

"The damage you have caused in uncountable. Some of these offences go back to the mid-80s..... you got away with it for an extensive period of time."

Stokes added Staley's sentence would have been more severe were it not for his old age as he believed he still posed a risk to young girls. Staley was also made to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
