Overview

World number one Novak Djokovic will look to win his first French Open on Sunday, thus helping him complete a career Grand Slam. If he wins, the Serb will become the first player in the open era since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all the four Grand Slams at the same time.

Djokovic comes into this clash in excellent form, beating 13th seeded Dominic Thiem 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-final, converting six of the 13 break point opportunities and balancing 15 unforced errors with 15 winners.

This will be the fourth final that the Serb will be competing in, failing to win in three previous attempts at the Roland Garros. Djokovic himself has admitted that he has not performed to his level in the competition in the past and that winning the French Open title is a number one priority.

His opponent on Sunday is a familiar foe, Andy Murray. With Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal suffering from poor run of form and injuries this year, the Djokovic-Murray clash is seen as the biggest rivalry in tennis.

Murray too will be gunning for his first French Open title and will become the first man to win here since Fred Perry in 1935 . The Scot was expected to struggle against defending champion Stan Wawrinka in the semi-final but as seen recently, Murray has added steel and bite to his game that was previously missing.

While none of them could be called the favourite going into this clash, the crowd will know that this one is going to be a cracker of a contest, with the current two best players in the world fighting it out for the French Open crown.
