In what is his first appearance at Madrid since 2013, he delivered a brilliant performance to defeat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-1 in the third round on Thursday. Djokovic thrashed Raonic in their most recent meeting at Indian Wells final in March earlier this year.

Raonic, World No 10, had a brilliant start to 2016. First he beat Roger Federer in the final at Brisbane to capture his eighth ATP World Tour title, and then he progressed to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. The 25-year-old picked up and adductor injury which saw him take a month of too recover and he still seems to be suffering from its aftereffects restricting his movements on the court. Raonic has improved his overall game especially his backhand.
