Overview

World number one Novak Djokovic has had a good tournament so far, cruising past Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-3 and Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarter-final stage. The Serb is yet to drop a set in the competition and though he came here unprepared after pulling out of the China Open, he looks in fine form.

The 29-year-old is one of the crowd favourites at Shanghai and has a 24-3 win-loss record at the event. In fact, Djokovic has won the title three times in the past four years showing just how much he has dominated the event in China.

Djokovic comes into this clash as the definite favourite to progress into the semi-final.

His opponent, Mischa Zverev, who is the older brother of rising tennis sensation Alexander Zverev, has not had a very successful time of late. This is his first quarter-final appearance in a Masters 1000 Series.

Currently ranked 110 in the ATP circuit, Zverev has been a revelation so far at Shanghai, beating Nick Kyrgios and Marcel Granollers to reach this stage. However, on current form it is unlikely that he would cause an upset when facing the best player in the world on 14 October.
