A vile Facebook page mocking missing Madeleine McCann caused offence in the latest case of online abuse against her.

A user on the social media website posted a photograph of Madeleine with a caption in Scottish vernacular: "Anyone on it? Still no been hame."

It was posted by a used named Coatbridge Dirtys. Coatbridge is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Politician Margaret Mitchell condemned the page to Daily Record: "Social media can be used to cause people distress," she said.

Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann have spoken previously of how online abuse has hit them and caused upset.

The offensive page was only pulled down by Facebook after Daily Record got in touch to report it.
