One Direction Perfect
One Direction enlisted their longtime director Ben Winston to create the Perfect music video Syco

It is one of their last releases before taking a break so it is understandable that One Direction appear to be reflective in the music video for new single Perfect. Although tamer than their previous videos, the four-piece made sure to get up to mischievous antics in true 1D fashion.

Filmed at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York City, members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan take in the sights of the Big Apple from their hotel rooms while thinking about a love interest. The video, which was shot during the group's On The Road tour, also features Payne, 22, recording tracks for their upcoming album Made In The AM in a makeshift studio at the hotel.

Other scenes feature the singers entertaining themselves during some downtime, with Horan, 22, playing mini golf in his suite and his bandmates playing football in a conference room before getting rebellious and trashing the hotel rooms with bed sheets, books and luggage trolleys. The visuals were shot in black-and-white to compliment the melancholic mood under the direction of Ben Winston, who has created several music videos for the group over the last five years.

Perfect, an emotionally charged love song, was written by Styles and Tomlinson and a string of other songwriters, with production from Julian Bunetta and Jesse Shatkin. It is the second track to be lifted off the boy band's fifth album following the lead single Drag Me Down, which broke Spotify's record for the highest first-week streams in the UK when it was released in July.

The release of Made In The AM will be bittersweet as fans are anticipating new music but also disappointed that it will be their last release for a while as they take a hiatus to pursue solo projects. The boys will have competition on the charts, as Justin Bieber is set to release his long-awaited album Purpose on the same day, 13 November.

One Direction are approaching the end of their On The Road Again tour, which wraps up on 31 October, but they have received criticism for cancelling their show in Belfast on 20 October just 30 minutes before they were due to appear on stage. A spokesperson for the group told the audience that Payne had fallen ill and was unable to perform, with a statement reading: "Unfortunately One Direction have had to cancel tonight's concert in Belfast.

"Liam has been taken suddenly ill, and the concert will sadly not be taking place. Fans have been asked to hold onto their tickets and there will be a further statement tomorrow. The band apologise to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible."
