Directioners around the world are mending their broken hearts after claims that One Direction will take a hiatus from 2016. Although it would mean a temporary end to the boy band, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, are reportedly planning to launch their individual projects – but what exactly should the singers do next?

Five months after Zayn Malik sensationally quit the boy band, a source has told The Sun newspaper that the remaining members will be taking some time out once their current On The Road Again tour wraps up in October. For their millions of devoted fans, it is absolutely devastating but it will not be the last they will ever see of the four-piece.

As the Night Changes hitmakers prepare to take a break from 1D, the IBTimes UK predicts – humorously – what Styles, Tomlinson, Payne and Horan could do next...

Harry Styles the hair model

What he could do next: No other male singer in pop has hair more luscious than our Harry so it would not be hard for him to land lucrative endorsement deals with Head & Shoulders, for example. When the 21-year-old singer first emerged on the scene in 2010, he made hearts melt with his adorable curls. In 2015, Styles sports a shoulder-length loose mane which is perfect for the on-trend man bun.

What he is actually meant to do next: Reports claim the heart-throb has been pursuing a Hollywood movie career for some time. Styles already has the support of film-maker Harvey Weinstein who offered the singer a role alongside his rumoured ex-girlfriend Cara Delevingne earlier in 2015. However, the pop star reportedly had to turn it down due to work commitments with 1D.

Louis Tomlinson the football manager

What he could do next: The 23-year-old proved he was not cut out for the pitch when he threw up after a tough tackle during a charity football game in 2013. Tomlinson then tried to buy the Doncaster Rovers football team in 2014 but it fell through so perhaps becoming the next Roy Keane would be more suited to his talents.

What he is actually meant to do next: Tomlinson will have his hands full in just a few months as he is set to become a father for the first time, reportedly with his close friend Briana Jungwirth. There were also claims that he had teamed up with 1D's Syco record label to find a new girl group.

Liam Payne the face of Burger King

What he could do next: Millions of Burger King customers had the 21-year-old to thank when he tweeted about enjoying the fast food chain's chicken fries, prompting the restaurant to bring back the popular dish. What a perfect ambassador Payne would make.

What he is actually meant to do next: Often regarded as "the Gary Barlow of One Direction", Payne appears to be living up to the title as the singer has previously confirmed he is writing music for other artists.

Niall Horan the golf caddy

What he could do next: So, Horan's first attempt at caddying for Rory McIlroy did not go too well – he fell over on live TV while carrying the golf clubs – but the singer could probably make a fine caddy with practice and he looked like a total pro in his golf whites.

What he is actually meant to do next: Speculation is rife that the Northern Ireland-native is keen to pursue a solo career so is he set to rival former bandmate Zayn Malik? Watch this space.
