Niall Horan was reportedly thrilled to be given the chance to help championship golfer Rory McIlroy at the warm-up rounds of the 2015 Masters by working as his caddie.

But his excitement must have got the better of him as, during an interview between Sky Sports presenter Kirsty Gallacher and McIlroy as the game unfolded, the One Direction star fell over on live television.

The stumble only lasted a few seconds before Horan picked himself up again but his recovery wasn't so fast that the mishap went unnoticed.

Unimpressed by Horan's caddie skills, Piers Morgan took to Twitter, writing "So far @NiallOfficial, I've watched you hit it in the water & fall over. Think I'll go to bed before things get even worse! #Augusta".

The Irish 21-year-old then retaliated by saying "@piersmorgan when was the last time you caddied at the par 3 at the masters piers? Oh yeh never ! Back to bed old man!"

However, Horan's appreciation of his opportunity to walk alongside McIlroy and even meet Tiger Woods meant that his spirits weren't dampened and he seemed able to laugh off the fall (and the comments from Morgan). The singer tweeted later yesterday evening: "If your walking around augusta, don't step on the pine leaves, slippy as hell Hahahaha! #redfaced!"

Horan is enjoying some downtime in between performing shows with the rest of One Direction. The band's On The Road Again tour will see them play venues all around the world with numerous cities being visited in Australia, Asia, America and Europe.

The tour began in February and will run right up until the end of October. After the break, the band will kick off with their Cardiff gig in June.
