Blizzard's hit shooter Overwatch is loaded with references and Easter Eggs, largely relating to the developer's other famed series: Warcraft, Diablo, Hearthstone and Starcraft. These range from direct nods to the designs of its large cast of hero characters.

There are other references too, including one that's only just come to light thanks to an eagle eyed fan who posted his discovery to the game's Sub-Reddit community.

Over a month since the game's May launch, user ElMoosen noticed an uncanny similarity between the wave emote for Support character Zenyatta and the wave of Baymax – star of Disney animation Big Hero 6.

We've embedded comparison gifs toward the foot of this article.

It's certainly no coincidence. So, why would Blizzard throw this into their game? Well, the characters are both robots, and that's about it really. It's a nice little nod if nothing else, but it's a shame there aren't other references in there. We want to Reinhardt to do Baymax's patented fist bump.

Both Overwatch and Big Hero 6 have become hugely popular in-part because of their international appeal. Disney's film – released in 2014 and directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams – was set in the fictional city of San Fransokyo, which blended elements of American and Japanese culture.

Overwatch, meanwhile, has been celebrated for its diverse, international cast of heroes – who offer unique abilities and skills in a six-on-six multiplayer first-person shooter. Since its release on 24 May it has been immensely popular, amassing over 10 million players back in mid-June.
