CBS has released the synopsis for Person Of Interest season 5 finale, which teases a final showdown between the Machine and the Samaritan. Episode 13 is titled, Return 0, which will air on 21 June at 10pm ET/PT on the CBS Television Network.
Here is the official synopsis for the series finale of Person Of Interest:
In the previous episode, Root Groves took a bullet, which was in fact fired at Harold Finch and, the former died a hero. But in a shocking turn of events, she "lived on" in the show, in the form of The Machine's long-awaited "voice".
Co-showrunners Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman spoke to TV Line about Root's death and what it meant for Team Machine. Plageman said, "Root has always implored Harold Finch to make his machine more assertive in this war, and now, faced with what they're up against, Root ultimately is the one who makes the sacrifice to save the father of The Machine, and that's Harold.
"I think it's true to Root's character — her first love was The Machine. She always believed people were "bad code," and more than anything she wants Harold's machine to win this war. Her going down in this matter seemed apropos."
Nolan also spoke the twist behind The Machine's voice and shared, "And at Comic-Con three years ago, when asked, 'When will The Machine get a voice?' we did say, 'Someday, but you won't like how it happens.' I think we fulfilled that mandate."
Jonah Nolan spoke about the finale title, and shared, "The working title of the episode — before we settled on 'return 0,' which is a vestige of my old days as a coder — had been, 'Everyone Dies Alone,' which reflected our mood at that moment."
The next episode of Person Of Interest season 5 is titled, Synecdoche, where Finch will consider taking drastic steps to combat Samaritan, especially after Root's death. Episode 11 will air on 7 June on CBS Network. The official synopsis reads as follows:
