The highly anticipated wedding of Petra Ecclestone and James Blunt took place in the 15th century Odescalchi Castle, where Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes, just outside of Rome. Petra's sister, Tamara, 27, was the maid of honour and Bernie Ecclestone the billionaire F1 Moghul, who is worth £2.5 billion, gave his youngest daughter away.

Bernie, 80, has really splashed out on the three-day celebration.

The castle grounds had been transformed into what was described as a 'magical world' themed setting, with air-conditioned, flower-filled canopies to keep guests cool.

Petra was dressed in an £80,000 couture wedding gown by designer Vera Wang, was accompanied by sister Tamara, 27, and two bridesmaids, close friends Skye Mellar and Ines Raddoc.

Hotel heiresses Paris and Nicky Hilton were also seen at the wedding, alongside their mother Kathy.

While Paris opted for a full-length silver number, Nicky went for something a bit more unusual in a pink lace dress with turquoise bow detail, as Kathy donned a navy blue lace gown.

Eric Clapton, who rarely plays live anymore but is a good friend of Bernie's and is believed to have got a £240,000 fee, performed the first song as the newly-weds took to the floor for their first dance as a married couple.

And then the Black Eyed Peas performed a set for guests at the reception, at a reported cost of £750,000.

Bernie Ecclestone splased £310,000 on renting the Italian castle which included catering and guests' accommodation.

£40,000 was spent on a spectacular fireworks display at midnight.
