Piers Morgan confirms his Corrie offer on Good Morning Britain ITV

He is on Good Morning Britain every day as a presenter and has received widespread praise for his chilling two-part documentary, Killer Women, but now Piers Morgan could be adding another string to his bow as a soap star.

The 51-year-old proved it's never too late to go off on a new career tangent as he claimed during a discussion with co-host Susanna Reid on Wednesday's show (25 May) that Coronation Street bosses have offered him a role.

Morgan said: "I've actually just had an offer from Coronation Street to do a cameo. They're asking what kind of role I'd like; do I want a fight in the Rovers? Do I want to be... You know?"

A shocked Reid queried her colleague to confirm that the surprising offer came from the soap's social media account, asking: "When you say you've had an offer from Coronation Street, you mean the Twitter producer has suggested a role you might play?"

Morgan responded: "That person speaks on behalf of the show. And I'm available. I think I would be very popular. You know, have a bit of southern grit and good looks out there on that cobbled street."

Fantasising about what character he might play if he takes up the opportunity, Morgan suggested he quite fancied playing the love interest of Michelle Connor, portrayed by 39-year-old, raven-haired Kym Marsh.

Prompting an online debate, Coronation Street's Twitter account posted: "We've seen it all now! @piersmorgan has just auditioned for #Corrie live on @GMB - what did you think? #CorrieSecrets" which received a mixed response from Corrie fans.

One user wrote: "Love the idea. Can't wait to see him on Corrie!" whilst another commented: "Don't you DARE let Piers Morgan go on Coronation Street!"
