The body discovered by French Police yesterday, while out searching for the missing 12-year-old British boy Pierre Barnes. Has been been confirmed as his.

Sadly Pierre had only just arrived on a half term holiday with his parents Stephen and Florence Barnes and three siblings on an island just off the south coast of France. He was out on his bike when a storm hit with winds reaching 130kmh and after failing to return home, was reported missing. After a massive search, rescuers then found one of the boy's shoes on a coastal path about 3km from the rented house where the family was staying, alongside his bike with its chain off. His body was found a mile from there.

Stephen Barnes, Pierre's father told the BBC that he believed his son had died, as he tried to find somewhere out of the wind and then got disorientated and couldn't find his way back. He said, "he didn't expect to find him alive but they hoped to find Pierre's body for closure."

A post-mortem examination, due to take place shortly, should also establish whether he died from drowning or falling from a cliff.
