AMC will premiere its supernatural comedy-drama Preacher on Sunday 22 May AMC

With just days left for its grand premiere, AMC has released a four-minute clip of the pilot episode of its upcoming supernatural thriller Preacher. The show is based on Garth Ennis's popular and controversial comic book franchise by DC and Vertigo.

The twisted and dark drama narrates the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher, who is deeply affected by his past and has lost his faith in God. But soon his beliefs will be challenged when he acquires mysterious powers that will enable him to find God and confront an evil entity that is leaving a trail of destruction on Earth.

The first scenes of the premiere episode begin at the cosmic level where an unknown entity (much like a meteorite and Genesis in the graphic comic book) travels roughly across the planets piercing Saturn's ring and bouncing through the cosmos. Later, it enters Earth, and Africa in particular, where it inhabits the body of a preacher, who, after getting possessed, utters "I am the prophet". But soon the entity bursts out of his body splattering the preacher's blood over his followers.

The scene then moves to a small Texas town where Jesse (we only see his bare back with wound marks) is still being haunted by his past. However, he soon gathers himself up and gets dressed to perform his duties as a preacher at the All Saint Congregational.

According to the official synopsis, Jesse will inherit highly unusual supernatural powers after a mysterious entity inhabits his body. Later, he embarks on an unconventional journey, where he is joined by his ex-girlfriend Tulip and Cassidy the vampire.

Preacher stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun in the lead and will premiere on Sunday 22 May in the US. Sam Catlin, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are the executive producers of the series.
